On Wednesday, September 25th, the Canadian federal government will hold a vote on the second reading of Bill C-223, which proposes the creation of a national framework for a guaranteed livable basic income.
The affordability crisis has severely impacted people’s lives, particularly those with no stable employment and lower-income families. To address this serious need for assistance, Bill C-223 has been introduced. It suggests the creation of a guaranteed livable income based on the current reality of Canada’s economic and social system, along with a further study on its potential impacts on the lives of Canadians.
In light of this event, the Carleton University’s Students Association (CUSA) expresses its support and encouragement for the second reading of this bill. The affordability crisis deeply impacts Carleton’s domestic and international students, who face rising housing costs and living expenses, often without adequate financial support. CUSA is committed to advocating for a more just and equitable life for all students, so as to improve their quality of life and well-being.
