Our mission is to create a safe(r) environment for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community through education, advocacy, and unwavering support.
About GSRC
The Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre (GSRC) is a safe(r) space for Carleton students wishing to connect with queer and trans community.
Welcome to the Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre – a friendly and welcoming space dedicated to supporting Carleton students of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
At the heart of our approach is an intersectional perspective, acknowledging the diverse and layered identities and lived experiences that each individual brings to our community. We are committed to fostering an inclusive space where everyone feels valued and respected.
Through our carefully curated programming, we strive to provide resources and opportunities for personal growth and empowerment. Our aim is to facilitate dialogue, understanding, and awareness around gender and sexuality-related topics.
The GSRC provides services such as:
Peer Support (navigating gender and sexuality, experiences of sexual violence, mental health, student life, and more)
The GSRC is committed to providing education, advocacy, and support to 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies alike. After noticing a lack of accessible information for trans people in Ottawa, former GSRC coordinators Merissa Taylor-Meissner and Myles Pelley created a trans resource guide, compiling local transition-related resources into one document. The purpose of this resource guide is to direct trans kin and community to useful trans-affirming resources in Ottawa.
The second edition of this guide (recently updated in 2023) was started by GSRC coordinators Jade Petgrave Cayley and Michah Lafortune (2021-2022), and continued by Rory Hart (2022) & Gabbie Cruz (2023). The hope is that this remains as a living document which will be updated as frequently as possible to reflect changes to the resources available in the community!
Volunteer with us! The GSRC is always accepting volunteers to help us run events, distribute resources, and provide peer support. Want to get involved? Fill out the GSRC volunteer application to get started.
