On Monday March 4th, members of CUSA met with Leah Gazan, the Hon. Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre, to discuss the endorsement of Private Member’s Bill C-223, or “An Act to develop a national framework for a guaranteed livable basic income.
MP Gazan expressed her solidarity with students at Carleton experiencing serious financial barriers and detrimental impacts on their mental health in the wake of the rising cost of living and tuition. CUSA asked questions pertaining to the bill, and how to best go about including students in consultation of the development of a basic income program.
We whole-heartedly endorse the aims of Bill C-223, and CUSA is proud to work with MP Gazan and her team. We look forward to continuing our collaboration on student issues.
