On January 27th, CUSA Council passed a motion to develop a statement on conflict and peace. In response to the ongoing conflicts around the world, such as, but certainly not limited to, those in Myanmar, Palestine, Sudan, and Ukraine, the Carleton University’s Students’ Association stands in solidarity with the communities directly and indirectly affected by these events and that are enduring immense suffering and displacement. These conflicts are a reminder of the importance of peacebuilding, humanitarian support, and conflict resolution at a time of unprecedented uncertainty. As a student organization committed to social justice and solidarity with all of our student body, CUSA is devoted to advocating for peaceful solutions that address the root causes of such conflicts, such as inequality and human rights violations. We acknowledge that students affected by these global crises need support and care. CUSA is committed to raising awareness and creating knowledge about the impact of conflicts on our student body and communities around the world.
Through Carleton University’s Mental Health Services, students can access counseling and support groups to help cope with the emotional toll of these events. CUSA also encourages students to utilize resources such as the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities and CUSA’s advocacy team for additional support and guidance.
