As we enter Black History Month, the Carleton University’s Students’ Association (CUSA) recognizes and celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of Black communities around the world. This month is a time to reflect on the resilience, achievements, and struggles of Black communities who have shaped our society in so many diverse ways.
While February provides an opportunity for learning, growth, and celebration, CUSA acknowledges that Black history is not restricted to one month. It is instead an essential part of our collective history and should be recognized all year-round. CUSA remains committed to advocating for racial justice, amplifying Black voices, and fostering an inclusive campus where all Carleton University students feel seen and supported.
CUSA encourages all of the Carleton student body to engage in meaningful conversations, and support Black-led initiatives both on and off campus during such an important month. If you would like to learn more about Black History Month and what part you can take in celebrating Black communities, the Umoja program is dedicated to dismantling anti-Black racism and celebrating the accomplishments of African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities through different events and educational workshops. The Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities (EIC) also provides cultural support and learning opportunities for all the student body at Carleton. If you have any questions on how to get involved, feel free to reach out to us. Happy Black History Month!
