CUSA Speaks to CBC Ottawa About Student Transit Concerns, LRT Service Reductions

On Wednesday, Sep. 18th, representatives of the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) attended a series of radio and television interviews at CBC Ottawa, in order to discuss issues surrounding Council’s decision to maintain the cuts to ten-minute service on off-peak Confederation Line hours, as well as share students’ experience and testimony using transit in Ottawa.

On the morning radio, Associate Vice President Executive Relations Jahnelle Woldegiorgis shared the stories of students’ experience and frustration they have been feeling over the delayed completion of the LRT. Jahnelle echoed the advocacy efforts CUSA has been making to bring a solution to this issue.

Shortly after Ottawa City Council announced its decision to maintain service cuts, CUSA President Sarah El Fitori and University of Ottawa Students’ Union (UOSU) President Delphine Robitaille both spoke on CBC’s Ottawa Evening News with host Robyn Miller. Both student union presidents communicated the need for a fairer deal for student transit in Ottawa and increased funding to address frequency and capacity issues on our light-rail network.

CUSA will continue to be a strong proponent of a proactively funded and student-guided transit strategy in the City of Ottawa.
